Pre JBST: before joining JBST in October 2001 Pete did no
self-testing.
Now with JBST: Below are Pete's RAMP test data at 225watts
- HR is taken at the end of 3-minutes.
It shows a classic mid-winter lull in fitness (all Northern hemisphere
athletes get this) but
since March it has improved to the latest test (27th June) of
141. This is 9% better than
June 2002 and 6% better than the start of the racing
season. See below:

SMART Approach:
1. Pete Builds a solid base using aerobic riding and running
with just 1/2 swims a week.
2. Specific S/B/R tests are used to stimulate motivation and
direct training changes.
3. Races are geared into a periodised plan that changes training
to meet goals.
4. We talk every week and ensure plans are adjusted to present
health/work conditions.

* Regular
coach contact is essential to ensure progression, motivation
and goal achievement.
* The RAMP test helps improve results and give athletes motivation.
* Using a range of technologies (spreadsheets, HRM, e-mail etc)
makes for a SMARTER triathlete.
